Meet Our Ministry Team

Seth Van Dyke

Director of Operations

Mr. Van Dyke serves as Heartland's Director of Operations for this his 4th school year. His role provides a consistency throughout our school by serving as leader of our staff, school operations and being the Principal for our students.  

​

Growing up in a small Christian school made choosing joining the staff at Heartland easy for Seth. He is currently finishing his degree in Business Administration from Dort University and plans to pursue his Masters in Education. All 4 of his children attend Heartland, and his wife is in ministry locally as well.

​

Mr. Van Dyke also also serves as our Physical Education Teacher and oversees our High School students, which provides a daily opportunity to connect with our students. Mr. Van Dyke also coaches our Trap Team in the Fall and Spring.

Kerin Hanson

Middle School and High School  Teacher

Mrs. Hanson has spent her teaching career with all different ages and abilities, all of which demonstrates her love of teaching and of learning. She is in her 4th year at Heartland, teaching our middle school and high school students math and science.   

​

Mrs. Hanson completed her undergrad at Minnesota Sate University Moorhead, and has her Master's Degree in Education. She recently graduated with an additional advanced degree as a Curriculum Specialist.

​

Kerin is also a Heartland parent of 3 kids. She is very active and outdoorsy. All summer you will find her with her own tee time on the golf course or giving golf lessons.

Lea Cermak

Middle School and High School Teacher

Mrs. Cermak graduated from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul with a degree in Social Studies Education and a minor in Bible. She joined Heartland last year with 4 years of teaching experience. 3 of which were at a Christian school in near the the twin cities. 

​

Teaching kids about Jesus has always been a central part of her life growing up as a Camp Counselor, attending a Christian College and starting her career in a Christian School. She is honored to be at Heartland and continue to pursue teaching kids about Jesus. 

​

Lea and her husband are both very active in the outdoors. All summer you will find them traveling to Minnesota State parks to go hiking, camping and canoeing. And they make sure to snap a photo of their dog at each entrance sign.

Lynda Vaughn

Preschool Teacher

Mrs. Vaughn has served in many different capacities at Heartland over the last 10 years. God gifted her with such a heart of servanthood. This is her 4th year as our Preschool Teacher, providing a great balance in all our class options.  She brings a fun presence to her classroom, always joining in their dress up days and providing a warm atmosphere for our youngest students.

Mrs. Vaughn has had all of her kids in Heartland. She also serves on our PTO. She is usually the first to volunteer when a need arises and is always gives above what is expected. She connects so well with all our students, and parents too.

Tyffany Wettschreck

Kindergarten Teacher

Mrs. Wettschreck is joining Heartland with 6 years of Christian school teaching experience.  She combines her love of Jesus with her love of teaching.  She is excited to live our her faith and openly share Jesus with her young students.

​

She sees both teaching and motherhood as a ministry and is thankful the Lord has provided for her both these opportunity at Heartland.

​

She is a newlywed and is new to the Bemidji area and looks forward towards getting to know our city.

Chelsey Crotty

Elementary Teacher 

Mrs. Crotty has been saying for years she wants to be involved at Heartland however she can. She stepped in midyear as a kindergarten teacher and now has found herself right were God called her as our 1st and 2nd grade teacher. She is a Heartland parent of 2 kids who also attend Heartland.

​

Mrs. Crotty is a bubbly teacher who brings an aspect of learning into everything she does. And is quick to step into a need. She is a Nutritionist and has credits towards her Masters degree and a natural gift for teaching young minds. She focuses on relationship building with both her students and families at Heartland.

Megan Harvey

Elementary Teacher

Mrs. Harvey is our 3rd and 4th grade classroom teacher! This is her 3rd year at Heartland and has built great relationships both with her students and their families. She brings a warm and encouraging personality to her classroom. God's light shines brightly to her students and likewise in their education. 

​

Megan loves drawing and reading and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Harvey graduated from Bemidji State University with her teaching degree. She joins her husband in ministry as well during her after-school time.

Amber Vold

Art Teacher

Mrs. Vold is a familiar face at Heartland, having spent time here as a Substitute Teacher and a  previous parent. Students will see her in a new roll as our Art Teacher. Amber holds a Fine Art Degree from BSU and has many years of experience boosting her role. 

​

She and her Husband have 5 Children all of whom will have been students here at Heartland. Amber also has 10 years of youth ministry teaching AWANA and Children's Church. She loves sharing her faith and teaching kids about Jesus in creative ways.

Megan Beighley

Office Manager

Mrs. Beighley has been with Heartland for her 7th school year. Even though her job is primarily in the office, she steps into any roll as needed. She enjoys her roll at Heartland for the great balance or working with students, parents and staff members. 

​

Megan has her Bachelors degree in Business Management from Minnesota State University Moorhead and is a Heartland parent. She has many years of experience working with students and teaching them about Jesus through her church and homeschool community.

Jenna Schafer

School Nurse

Mrs. Schafer is returning to our staff as our School Nurse again this year. She brings great knowledge to our students and school.

​

Nurse Jenna full time role is a Registered Nurse locally and we are grateful for her to take her extra time to bless our students in the school nurse role. 

​​

Jenna is familiar presence to our students having been our nurse last year, but also being a Heartland parent with 2 kids in Heartland. She and her husband have 3 kids, and they are very active within our community and with their families.

Lucas Karl

Janitor
Trap Team Assistant Coach

Mr. Karl is joining Heartland this year with an eagerness to serve our school in any capacity. He will be taking care of the everyday cleaning of our school along with the weekly and monthly maintenance necessities. 

​

Lucas and his wife have 4 kids, 2 are old enough to be at Heartland. I'm sure we will often hear a proud "My dad fixed that!" come from both boys throughout this school year. 

​

When Lucas isn't working his full time job or serving as Janitor here, he is our Assistant Coach for our Trap Team in the fall and Spring seasons. 

HCA follows the Bemidji School District's weather related school closings.
